Furnishing Your Dining Room

Well the furnishings of a dining room depend on a lot of things. These are whether it is a formal dining room or a casual one or it is just a breakfast nook. Then the other considerations tend to depend on the above only. So below are some features of dining room furnishings.

Formal Dining Room

A formal dining room is only for purpose of dining and has to be a separate room. The furniture can be of any style though some royal pieces and furnishing are preferred. The dining table should be big enough for 8-10 people.

Casual Dining

The dining space of a casual dining room is located between the great room's living and kitchen areas. This multipurpose room is generally used for dining, homework and hobbies and so it is furnished like that. The furniture here must blend with that of the living area.

Breakfast Nook

This area is typically located at an end of the kitchen or in a custom-built bay. The nook is mostly used for family dining but sometimes for informal entertaining also. Furniture, whether free-standing or built-in, is also very casual.

Furnishing Tips

To create a dining room as functional as it is appealing, consider these tips on furnishings:

a. Before buying a table, do determine the maximum number of diners you must frequently serve to. Leave minimum 3 feet behind each chair for pull-out and serving and also leave sufficient place between two people.
b. Before combining mismatched dining pieces, don't forget to measure the height of the table and the chair arms for making sure the seats can slip under the table.
c. Nothing can spark a dining room like candlelight. For function, you can add overhead illumination, like a ceiling-hung fixture above the table.
