The Dining Room Hutch


A dining room should generally consist of a dining table, chairs, a sideboard and a dining room hutch to house your precious china and crystal ware. A dining room without a hutch is definitely incomplete, and besides adding convenience it also adds a lot of character to the dining room. There are many types of hutches available in the market, and it is also possible to get them custom made, if you are willing to shell out a few more bucks. Before making your final purchase following are some of the points that you should keep in mind.

1. Make sure the measurements are just perfect, in terms of the dining room size and the amount of storage area you are going to need.
2. It has to co-inside with the rest of the décor of the room, colour, dining table and chairs etc, for instance.
3. It has plenty of display space, apart from storage area.
4. The material that it is made of is suitable to the environment that you live in. A wooden dining room hutch is unadvisable for a damp area, for instance.

Types of Dining Room Hutches: materials, sizes and design specifications

1. According to materials: The dining room hutches are most commonly made of wood, although these days' wrought iron, stainless steel and artificial materials like sun mica and hard plastic are also commonly used. The wood finish although, is most elegant and looks wise, superior to all the others.

2. Size: The size of a dining room hutch can differ greatly, according to the size and fittings of the dining room. But a standard size that is convenient and most-commonly seen or made in the ready market is - 60 (Width) 18(Depth) 80(height), approximately. It is possible to get bigger and smaller ones too.

3. Design specifications: The hutch can be designed in many different ways, and there is lots of scope for innovation and creativity. But in general, the hutch can either be a closed cabinet or a rack style open display. Both come with storage space and drawers. A common design however will be two square doors at the top, an open space in the middle and a chest of drawers at the bottom.
